In the end, the matters of weapons were more timely. In the war of the Catalán Independence known as the "War of the Reapers" against Felipe IV (1640), the castle was surrendered to the French-Catalán army captained by de La Motte (1642), and recovered the following year by the Castilian troops of Felipe de Silva.
