CONOCENOS | HISTORIA

In the end, the matters of weapons were more timely. In the war of the Catalán Independence known as the "War of the Reapers" against Felipe IV (1640), the castle was surrendered to the French-Catalán army captained by de La Motte (1642), and recovered the following year by the Castilian troops of Felipe de Silva. The castle was renovated, adding extensive defenses.

These wars were to befall others, such as the "War of Succession", that due to continued fighting the fortifications were expanded and spread to the neighboring hill of Santa Quiteria, according to the plans dating back to the year 1710.

The Renaissance will represent a shining stage both artistically and intellectually speaking. From this era, we contemplate palaces, fountains, churches that fill us with admiration, and we move to another stage in our history as you walk through the streets of Fonz. There you can visit the Baron of Valdeolivos Palace, the Renaissance Interpretation Center installed in the Palace housing the Town Hall. Additionally, don’t forget the old quarter of Monzón, the Dukes of Solferino Palace in Albalate de Cinca as well as preserved remains in countless other county villages.
